Ashkan Ramezani is a full-stack developer who works for Promotion LA in Los Angeles, California. He attended the coding bootcamp at UCLA Extension, graduating in 2019. Ramezani has a bachelor's degree in software engineering and various certificates in web development from UCLA and Santa Monica College.

Ramezani, who has been in the web development field since he was 18 years old, enrolled in the bootcamp as a concrete step to further his career in tech. "While I was enrolled in the bootcamp, I actually held my current position of head of web development. I took the course so that I could further my career in the near future," Raemzani said.

The Web Development Bootcamp Experience

In a coding bootcamp, students gain hands-on experience with different coding languages and techniques. Full-time bootcamps typically last about 12 weeks, while part-time bootcamps last 24 weeks, although this can vary depending on the provider. Many bootcamps offer flexible learning options so students can continue working at their current jobs while attending bootcamp classes in their spare time.

"I studied Bootstrap, JavaScript, JQuery, NPMJS, ReactJS, NoteJS, MySQL, and MongoDB," said Ramezani. "The coding bootcamp focused on full-stack development."

Web Development Careers

Bootcamp graduate success rates can vary widely depending on the program. For example, according to the Council on Integrity in Results Reporting (CIRR), 44-78% of web development students who graduated from CIRR-member bootcamps in the second half of 2020 were employed in their field within 180 days of graduation. Graduates of coding bootcamps often pursue jobs as computer programmers, web developers, and software developers.

Large companies — like Google and Amazon — and startups hire coding bootcamp graduates.

"I currently work for Promotion LA, a digital marketing and management agency in Los Angeles," said Ramezani. "My job duties are primarily related to full-stack development (front- and back-end development), website maintenance and updates, and creating API applications for sites."

"The coding bootcamp filled in the gaps and helped me be more flexible with web applications and customizations of projects," said Ramezani. "It gave me more confidence to troubleshoot problems myself and to be more creative."

For new bootcamp students, Ramezani recommends taking advantage of any career services offered by the bootcamp. "UCLA's career services provided free career services for all bootcamp graduates. They helped fix your resume and how to represent yourself at interviews to make a good impression on recruiters," he shared.
