Bootcamp Ranking Guidelines

At BestColleges, we believe the best bootcamp is the one that fits your schedule, your learning needs, and your career aspirations. That's why we often present our recommendations in alphabetical order -- because the real best bootcamp is the bootcamp that's best for you.

Our Methodology

The Bootcamp Team at BestColleges has collected data for over 150 bootcamps to help you find the best bootcamp.

At BestColleges, we believe the best bootcamp is the one that fits your schedule, your learning needs, and your career aspirations. That's why we often present our recommendations in alphabetical order -- because the real best bootcamp is the bootcamp that's best for you.

At this time, our recommendation round-ups feature only immersive bootcamps designed to prepare students for job placement upon graduation.

To be included on our lists, bootcamps must meet the following criteria:

  • Must offer at least one bootcamp in the United States.
  • Must offer at least one bootcamp that is a minimum of 4 weeks long.
  • Must require at least 15 hours of work per week if the bootcamp is part time.
  • Must encourage at least 10 hours of work per week if the bootcamp is self-paced.

Pricing disclosure: The prices listed were collected from product websites in 2022. However, given the dynamic, fast-paced nature of the tech space, prices are subject to change throughout the year. To get the most up-to-date information about pricing, contact providers directly.

Methodology for Recommending Cheap Bootcamps:

  • The bootcamp must meet all of the general criteria listed above.
  • The bootcamp must cost less than $8,000 if it is offered full time, and less than $5,000 if it is offered part time. These numbers were chosen based on data collected by BestColleges in 2020 that determined the average cost of a coding bootcamp is $13,580.

What Is a University-Affiliated Coding Bootcamp?

A university-affiliated coding bootcamp is run by a university but is not a regular degree program. It is a short program, usually 12 weeks full time or 24 weeks part time, that allows students to prepare for new careers quickly.

Most university bootcamp programs are offered in collaboration with Trilogy Education Services. As a result, the curriculum is often very similar from one university bootcamp program to the next. However, some universities do create their own curriculums.

What Is Data Analytics?

Data analytics is the process of analyzing raw data and drawing conclusions from that data. Data analytics training usually covers both the tools and techniques used to gather, store, and organize data. Common data analysis tools include Excel and various programming languages, such as Python, JavaScript, and R. Databases are often used to organize data, and database languages such as SQL help data scientists manage those databases.

In addition to knowing some computer programming, data analysts and scientists also need to know probability and statistics. Data scientists frequently use data modeling, data mining, and other techniques to study data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.

Data analytics and data science are closely related. Data science uses the analysis of data to make predictions about the future and solve problems.

Data Analyst Career Outlook

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) does not provide data for data analysts or data scientists. However, the BLS projects a 25% growth rate for operations research analysts and a 22% growth rate for computer and information research scientists from 2020-30. This is much faster than the average growth rate across all occupations. It is likely that the demand for data analysts and data scientists will continue to grow as well.

According to PayScale data from November 2021, data analysts earn an average salary of $62,370 per year and data scientists earn an average base salary of $96,990 per year. The average salary rises with experience. Entry-level data analysts earn an average of $57,130 per year, while those with 20+ years of experience earn an average of $73,570. Data scientists with over 20 years of experience can earn around $134,110 per year.

Frequently Asked Questions About Data Analytics Bootcamps

Do university-affiliated bootcamps have a different admissions process?

University-affiliated bootcamps have an admissions process that is similar to other coding bootcamps. This process is usually much simpler than the process of applying for admission to a degree program. Most programs only require candidates to have a high school diploma or GED certificate, but some do require programming experience.

The application process usually starts with filling out an application form online. Once that is done, the bootcamp provider will likely call you for an admissions interview to determine if you are a good fit for the program. Following the interview, you will most likely have to take an assessment to demonstrate your problem-solving and logic skills.

Can I get school credit from a university-affiliated bootcamp?

In most cases, university-affiliated bootcamps are non-credit programs. This means you cannot get credit toward a degree for completing the bootcamp. However, it is possible that you could use the knowledge you gained during the bootcamp to take a test such as the CLEP to earn college credit for what you have learned. If you plan to attend college after completing your bootcamp, check with the school to see if there is any way to earn credit for what you will learn in the bootcamp.

Are data analytics bootcamps worth it?

When trying to determine whether data analytics bootcamps are worth it, remember that data analysts earn an average salary of $62,370 per year. Attending a data analytics bootcamp may help you find a well-paying position. However, you should consider your budget, schedule, and career goals carefully when determining whether you should attend a bootcamp.
