HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET AN ONLINE ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION?

On average, it takes students one and a half to two years to earn their online business administration associate degree. Several factors influence how long it takes to earn your degree: whether your program allows you to transfer credits, whether you can take classes year round, and whether your program grants credit for prior work or military experience. Often, online associate degree business administration programs allow you to complete coursework at your own pace. Other programs run on a cohort model. In a cohort model, your online associate degree business program will have a predetermined start date, and you will work your way through the program with the same group of students who started the program with you. These programs provide a sense of community, but are generally less flexible.

It’s important to earn your online associate degree in business management from an accredited school. Accreditation indicates that a school has met certain standards. Earning your degree from an accredited institution may also affect your federal aid eligibility; the Department of Education (DOE) can only provide financial aid to students who attend accredited institutions. Typically, a school is either nationally accredited or regionally accredited. National accreditation is usually reserved for institutions of higher learning that focus on a specific type of education, like distance learning or vocational training. Regional accreditation is given to an institution that has met the standards of a regionally accredited association. Degrees from regionally and nationally accredited institutions are valid in any state.

You may also want to look for online associate degree business administration programs that have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The ACBSP provides accreditation to business programs around the world that meet its standards.

The types of accreditation associations mentioned above work with other organizations to establish the standards that institutions of higher learning must meet to earn accreditation. The DOE approves accreditors deemed reliable by the Secretary of Education. Another organization related to accreditation is the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The CHEA advocates for self-regulation among accredited institutions of higher learning to maintain high standards. A list of accredited school is available through the DOE and CHEA.

Students who graduate from an online associate degree in business management program are well-prepared for a variety of entry-level positions in the professional world. This gives you a leg up as you work your way up the ladder within a business or organization.
