In addition to supervised practice hours, students must complete a service learning or community health intervention project during their final term. Students are required to locate their own Registered Dietitian preceptors and supervised practice facilities in their communities.

All coursework in this online master's in nutrition program is offered entirely online, however, admitted students must attend a four-day on-campus orientation prior to beginning the first summer session. Classes are offered in a set sequence via Blackboard and ANGEL. Notable classes include nutrition therapy, nutrition assessment and intervention, and foodservice systems management. Online learners can expect readings, assignments, projects, and group discussions. Distance learners enjoy access to SUNY’s help desk, which offers technical assistance, online orientation, and training services.

Applicants are not required to be Registered Dieticians and GRE scores are optional. The program only admits up to 20 students a year. While national accreditation may sound more prestigious, it isn’t.
