Dr. Angélica S. Gutiérrez is an associate professor of management at Loyola Marymount University who has been recognized as one of the “World’s Best 40 Under 40 Business School Professors” by Poets&Quants. Her research explores the impact of imposter syndrome, the importance of negotiations and inclusive workplace policies for recruitment and retention, and women and ethnic minority representation in business leadership. As a contributor for Inc. Magazine, she wrote articles on minority businesses, negotiations, and imposter syndrome. Dr. Gutiérrez now writes on leadership strategy as a Forbes contributor.
Dr. Gutiérrez coined the term impostorization, which refers to the policies, practices, and seemingly innocuous interactions in organizations that make (or intend to make) individuals question their intelligence, competence, and sense of belonging. She has published her work on leadership, entrepreneurship, diversity, imposter syndrome, and impostorization in academic and practitioner outlets.
Dr. Gutiérrez presents her research at national and regional academic conferences and to organizations in the nonprofit, public, and private sectors, including the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Kraft-Heinz, Mattel, Abbott, Google, Morgan Stanley, and universities across the nation. Consistent with her commitment to reducing gender and racial pay disparities, Dr. Gutiérrez also teaches employment negotiations to organizations that serve historically excluded groups.
Dr. Gutiérrez earned her BA in political science and sociology with honors from UCLA, her master of public policy (MPP) from the University of Michigan, and her Ph.D. from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
Gutiérrez is a paid member of the Red Ventures Education Integrity Network.
