The pilot program won the support of the Chief Executive Officers of the California Community College (CEOCCC) Board, which represents 116 community colleges across the state.
South Orange Community College District Chancellor Julianna M. Barnes, a previous CEOCCC president, said the partnership means new opportunities for students.
“This innovative partnership between ASU and California Community Colleges opens new doors for our students, especially those who are anchored in California or seeking affordable, high-quality pathways to a bachelor’s degree,” Barnes said.
Merced College President Chris Vitelli said the pilot program is a way to unlock opportunities for students without requiring them to leave their communities.
“Our partnership with Arizona State University expands access through affordable, seamless transfer pathways — especially for students from rural and underserved communities,” Vitelli said.
“Together, we’re opening doors for students to achieve their goals, apply their skills locally, and help shape the Central Valley’s future.”
ASU Online is no stranger to students from California. The school reports a current enrollment of more than 15,000 students from the state.
