How We Rank Schools
Central Michigan University — Best Departmental Supports
- Mount Pleasant, MI
- 4 year
- Campus + Online
- Accredited
Why We Chose It: Central Michigan is the only institution on our list with an entrepreneurship department.
Central Michigan University's online entrepreneurship program stands out because the school has a dedicated department specifically for entrepreneurship. As a CMU student, you can take part in the department's New Venture Challenge, where you'll develop a business plan from ideation to launch and pitch it to investors. You can also win over $75,000 in cash awards and services. Aside from the competition itself, you'll also have the chance to attend workshops, mentorship sessions, and networking events.
The department's Isabella Bank Institute for Entrepreneurship offers fellowships, mentorships, and spaces such as the "Idea Den" for brainstorming and testing ideas. The department also offers one need-based and two merit-based scholarships for entrepreneurship students.
What We Like About CMU Online
- Choose between 8-, 12-, and 16-week terms depending on your flexibility and scheduling needs.
- If you're returning to finish your degree, CMU offers a detailed tool to determine which credits from your prior college experience will transfer.
- CMU gives you the flexibility to complete the program full time or part time while you balance work and school.
What We Don't Like
- CMU is a Yellow Ribbon school, but its funding is limited to just $500 for 100 undergrads to help with the tuition remaining after the Post-9/11 GI Bill®.
- CMU is the most expensive school on our list, at $499 per credit, unless you're military-affiliated, in which case you'll pay $250 per credit.

Columbia College — Best for Military-Connected Entrepreneurship Students
- Columbia, MO
- 4 year
- Campus + Online
- Accredited
Why We Chose It: This Yellow Ribbon school offers a tuition discount and exceptional resources for military students and veterans.
If you're a military-affiliated student, Columbia College's online entrepreneurship program is our top choice for you. Similar to CMU, Columbia College offers a discounted tuition rate of $250 per credit for active-duty military personnel and their spouses/dependents. However, Columbia College is the only school on our list with maximum Yellow Ribbon funding, which covers the remaining tuition for active-duty students and veterans after the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
As a military-affiliated student, you can also convert military training into college credit and qualify for two military-specific scholarships. Visit the school's Military and Veteran Support Center website to meet with Green Zone-trained military advocates ready to help you reach your educational goals, find webinars and videos, and connect with military student organizations like the SALUTE Veterans Honor Society.
What We Like About Columbia College
- Columbia College offers free books, so you won't need to worry about another college expense.
- The entrepreneurship program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
- If you're not a military member, tuition is still relatively affordable at $375 per credit hour.
What We Don't Like
- Despite great military resources and discounts, veterans are not eligible for the $250 discounted tuition.

Lynn University — Most Electives in an Entrepreneurship Program
- Boca Raton, FL
- 4 year
- Campus + Online
- Accredited
Why We Chose It: Students can shape their plan of study with 36 free elective credits.
If you're looking for a broad, customizable degree program, Lynn University's online entrepreneurship program requires 36 elective credits in addition to general education and major/minor courses. Lynn wins for customizability, as the other programs on our list have at most 12 electives to choose from.
You can choose electives to upskill in certain areas, pursue additional interests, or just learn something new. While the university refers to these courses as "free electives," that doesn't mean you can take them for free, but rather that you're free to take up to that many. You can take electives in healthcare, business, aviation, education, communications, and more.
What We Like About Lynn
- Lynn's entrepreneurship program is accredited by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE), a federally recognized accreditor.
- The university is recognized by Apple as a distinguished school for "continuous innovation in learning, teaching, and the school environment."
- Work with student success managers to find tutoring services, register for classes, and prepare for your career.

University of North Carolina at Greensboro — Most Affordable Entrepreneurship Degree
- Greensboro, NC
- 4 year
- Campus + Online
- Accredited
Why We Chose It: This program charges the lowest tuition rate regardless of resident status.
University of North Carolina Greensboro's online entrepreneurship bachelor's is the most affordable program on our list for in-state and out-of-state students. In-state students pay only $184.25 per credit, which is about $190 less than the two next most affordable options on the list. Although out-of-state students pay $368.50 per credit, that's still slightly lower than the cost at our next most affordable schools.
While this is our most affordable program for civilians, Yellow-Ribbon-eligible active-duty military and veteran students actually have a cheaper option at Columbia College, which covers tuition. UNCG's Yellow Ribbon funding only covers $6,825 per year for just 29 students.
What We Like About UNCG
- UNCG offers nine entrepreneurship-related student organizations, including the Collegiate Entrepreneurship Organization (CEO).

How to Choose the Best Online Entrepreneurship Degree Program for You
Before you enroll in an online entrepreneurship degree program, consider factors like degree type, cost, program length, and accreditation. All of these factors can impact your education and professional opportunities.
BA vs. BS. vs. BBA in Entrepreneurship: Which Should You Get?
Whether a bachelor of arts (BA), a bachelor of science (BS), or a bachelor of business administration (BBA) in entrepreneurship is right for you will depend on your academic interests and career goals.
In a BA program, coursework skews more toward the liberal arts and focuses on developing your critical thinking, writing, and communication skills.
BS programs, in contrast, tend to center on scientific subjects. In a BS in entrepreneurship program, you’ll get lots of training in the technical and analytical skills needed to run a business.
Finally, BBA programs apply some liberal arts concepts to provide you with a broad foundation in business. You’ll take courses in basic business areas like finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, and management.

Accreditation for Online Entrepreneurship Degrees
As you research online business entrepreneurship degrees, look for programmatic accreditation. This type of accreditation is given to individual programs rather than entire schools.
Accreditation ensures your online degree has the resources and qualifications to give you a quality education.
The three main accrediting agencies to look for when researching business programs are:
- Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)
- Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP)
- International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE)
While programmatic accreditation is not required for an entrepreneurship degree or to become a successful businessperson, it can help give your online entrepreneurship degree more credibility in the eyes of potential employers.
You can check a program’s accreditation status by visiting the accrediting agency’s official website.
What Can You Do With an Entrepreneurship Degree?

Nevertheless, your income can vary widely depending on your industry, location, and years of experience.

Is an Online Entrepreneurship Degree Worth It?
Whether you should go back to college to earn an online entrepreneurship degree depends on your professional goals and your personal circumstances.
Compare the cost of your degree with how much you can expect to earn after you graduate to help you determine the degree’s return on investment.
According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the mean starting salary for graduates who majored in entrepreneurial and small-business operations in 2023 was $58,290.
Key benefits of online entrepreneurship degree programs include affordability and flexibility for working adults, the ability to get a well-rounded education in business and entrepreneurship, and the potential to start a profitable business.
Take time to weigh the pros and cons and consider how an entrepreneurship degree can help you achieve your goals.
Education Beyond a Bachelor’s in Entrepreneurship
After earning an entrepreneurship degree, many go on to pursue a master of business administration (MBA) or a master’s in entrepreneurship.
These advanced business degrees build on what you learn in your bachelor’s program, deepening your skills and knowledge and enhancing your credibility.
You’ll graduate from a master’s program with comprehensive business knowledge, advanced leadership and management skills, and a strong network of like-minded professionals.
Keep in mind, however, that you don’t need an MBA to become an entrepreneur or start a business. An MBA is neither a guarantee nor a requirement for becoming a successful entrepreneur, though the degree can showcase your business expertise.
Frequently Asked Questions About Online Entrepreneurship Degree Programs
A bachelor’s in entrepreneurship is the most relevant degree for aspiring entrepreneurs. These programs emphasize business operations, management, marketing, and idea generation.
There are, however, a variety of business degrees that can prepare you for entrepreneurship, such as accounting, data analytics, finance, marketing, and artificial intelligence.
You may even decide to get an MBA after your bachelor’s. While an MBA can add student debt and tack on more time to your academic journey, it will give you advanced business skills and networking opportunities, increasing your chances of entrepreneurial success.
