  • Applications rose 5% from fall 2022.
  • Auburn received applications from every Alabama county and every U.S. state.

Auburn University appears on track to buck national college enrollment trends.

The Alabama land-grant institution announced this week it had received more than 48,000 first-year applications for fall 2023.

That figure represents a 5% increase from fall 2022 and marks a record number of first-year applications, according to the university, which also reports receiving applications from every Alabama county and every U.S. state.

"It is exciting to see that many students continue to demonstrate a strong interest in joining the Auburn Family," said Joffery Gaymon, vice president for enrollment. "As we focus on efforts of greater access to underserved areas, we are working hard to build connections and further grow our applicant numbers."

Auburn's early action acceptance rate was 44% for 20,000 acceptances and 9% for test-optional applicants. Students had an average ACT score of 28.2 and a GPA of 4.2.

If Auburn's record first-year application numbers translate to increased enrollment, the university will be bucking national undergraduate enrollment trends.

BestColleges previously reported that National Student Clearinghouse Research Center data shows enrollment in public four-year institutions dropped 4.3% from fall 2020 to fall 2022.
